Aside from the nuisance of feeling like you’re under attack by these insects, the bigger problem is they damage fresh, new growth on trees – particularly young trees. The female cicadas bore their eggs into the bottom sides of new young tender growth of the tree limbs.
The damage looks like a sewing seam, but without the thread. The damage is in a perfect line and the more tender limbs will break and droop or fall off. This doesn’t kill the trees, however it is unsightly and alarming. If this has happened to your trees, give us a call.
Hang in there – they’re almost all gone!
