Redbud

Another tree with purple flowers in Tennessee is the redbud tree. These trees are actually native to the state and tend to flower in early spring.

And while the blooms are pink, the leaves that replace them are a redder hue—the inspiration for the name “redbud.”

Dogwood

The blooms of these trees actually come in a variety of colors. You’ll see pink, white, and yellow versions across middle Tennessee.

And in fact, Nashville’s Cheekwood Estate and Gardens is actually the only nationally accredited dogwood collection, boasting about 250 trees that bloom together each spring.

Natives of Asia, plum trees are gorgeously packed with bright blooms all the way down their branches.

And if the colors weren’t enough, some of those blooms actually go on to become delicious small plums—it’s a win win!

Cherry

Last but certainly not least, middle Tennessee is also home to the cherry tree, another Asia native.

These trees look strikingly similar to plum trees but are differentiated by a small notch at the end of their petals.
