Record breaking temperatures and watering restrictions are taking a heavy toll. With this extreme weather, it is extremely important to water a LOT! While you may be tempted to water in the middle of the day when the sun is blazing down, it’s actualy best to water in the early morning hours, before around 9:30a.m. so you won’t scorch the foliage with water droplets. Pop-up showers help relieve the stress on your lawn and smaller shrubs, but larger, expensive shrubs (like boxwoods) and trees need a deeper watering to survive.
Some plants may still wilt even if you are watering a lot. Heat stress is a major factor for wilt with these extreme temperatures. The important part is to keep the ground cool with watering. Regular watering will help lower soil temps and help keep the root systems of your plants nice and cool.
If you have an irrigation system and need help adding time or extra days to it, please let us know. We are happy to help! We can also “tank” water your landscape and “gator bag” your ornamental trees. The cost is $75/hour (min. cost) plus $35 per gator bag.
